Synopsis

Roman general Mark Antony has been neglecting his duties to Rome after falling in love with Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. While in Egypt, Antony learns that his wife, Fulvia, has recently died as the result of a political conflict with Octavius Caesar. This news convinces him to return to Rome to fulfil his political and martial obligations, but he reassures Cleopatra that he still loves her. While in Rome, Antony meets with his other two triumvirs – Octavius Caesar (nephew of Julius Caesar) and Lepidus. As both mistrust Antony for neglecting his responsibilities, the three agree that Antony will marry Octavius’s sister to secure a lasting bond between them. But Antony cannot resist returning to Cleopatra, causing a rift in the Roman empire and inevitable war.
