'To be or not to be, that is the question.'

— Act III, Scene 1

Part of the 2012 Globe to Globe Festival.

Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrošius' Hamlet has toured the world and is now coming to London for the first time. Nekrošius' work engages with the sheer diversity of human nature, at once funny and violent, visceral and light-hearted.

Synopsis

The ghost of Hamlet’s father appears to the Danish prince to command him to revenge his murder. The murderer, Hamlet’s uncle, has claimed the throne and married the widowed queen Gertrude. Hamlet, uncertain of his uncle’s guilt, feigns madness as he attempts to prove Claudius’s crime. Spied upon by the King’s advisors, mistrusting of his friends and loved ones, consumed by an obsession with murder and death, the young Prince attempts to avenge his father and reclaim his right to the throne.
